College House is seeking a team of exceptional Residential Assistants (RAs) for 2027 to support the care, wellbeing, and community experience of our 159 residents.

Residential Assistants are highly visible leaders within the College House community and play a key role in fostering a safe, respectful, connected, and academically focused residential environment. RAs are leaders, mentors, role models, and key members of the pastoral care team who help foster a welcoming and well-managed residential community.

We are looking for approachable, responsible, mature, and highly capable individuals who can confidently balance leadership, pastoral care, professionalism, security, discretion, and teamwork.

This role is best suited to:

  • Senior students in their fourth year or above

  • Postgraduate students

  • Employed professionals whose work commitments can align with the RA roster, including evenings and weekends

This is a live-in position requiring a strong on-site presence throughout the academic year from the beginning of February 2027 to mid-November 2027.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students through their transition to university and residential life, while promoting wellbeing, inclusion, and community connection

  • Responding appropriately to incidents, emergencies, complaints, and student concerns when on duty/on-call

  • Supporting and upholding College House Policies and Procedures, the University of Canterbury Student Code of Conduct, and the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 in a professional and respectful manner

  • Facilitating positive relationships within the hall community

  • Completing duty and pastoral reports relating to incidents, safety concerns, and student wellbeing matters in a timely and professional manner

  • Supporting events and community activities

  • Undertaking regular resident welfare checks and appropriately escalating wellbeing, behavioural, or safety concerns

  • Attending staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities

Position Details

  • Part-time, fixed-term position (February – November 2027)

  • Live-in role at College House

  • Net remuneration equivalent to fully catered accommodation

  • Staff car park included

  • Access to EAP services

  • Employer KiwiSaver contributions (3.5%)
