Principal: Richard Taylor BPhEd, AssocDegSocSc (ResCare), Dip Tchg
Richard comes to College House from Christchurch Boys’ High School (CBHS) where he was Senior Master of Adams House (CBHS boarding hostel), Head of Department of Physical Education and was also the Staff Trustee on the CBHS Board of Trustees.
Richard has a Degree in Physical Education from the University of Otago, a Degree in Social Science (Residential Care) from the Australian Catholic University and a Diploma in Teaching from Christchurch Teachers’ College.
He has a celebrated coaching career in both rugby and cricket and has won dual national titles during his time as both 1st XI and 1st XV coach. He was also Master in Charge of Rowing at CBHS.
Richard is married to Toni and they have three adult children.
Assistant Principal: Gillian Smith BMS, Grad Dip Tchg
After a career in marketing and insurance in Perth, Australia and London, Gillian chose to apply her skills to teaching in South Auckland then Christchurch. Most recently she was a senior leader at a Christchurch primary school. Gillian brings all her career experience and that of watching her own children move through to study at university and adapt to the tertiary setting and its challenges.
Bursar: Rex Dillon BCom, ACIS
After graduating from the University of Canterbury, Rex initially travelled overseas before returning to Christchurch to take on a Group Accountant role within the timber industry. He then took on similar roles within the engineering and third-party logistics sectors in Nelson before returning once more to hometown Christchurch. As Bursar, Rex is responsible for College House’s day-to-day management, its finances and its property. Rex is married to Kerrie and they have a son (James) and a daughter (Katherine) both of whom are UC graduates. Katherine is an alumna of College House. Rex is a keen gym-goer and football supporter and has been actively involved in sports administration over a long period.
House Manager: Shirolee Gallagher
Shirolee manages both the kitchen and the housekeeping teams. In the kitchen, the focus is on creating fresh in-season menus which are ever changing to keep it interesting for students, staff as well as conference and event attendees. With her housekeeping team, Shirolee ensures that everything in the House runs smoothly. In her spare time, Shirolee enjoys exercising, music and spending time with her family.
Development Director: Erin Reeve
Erin is an old Girl of Samuel Marsden Collegiate and comes to College House from Whanganui Collegiate School, where she worked in an alumni and development role. Prior to that she worked in Wellington at both the Commerce Commission and Greater Wellington Regional Council. Erin’s current responsibilities are to communicate the ambitions and needs of College House to the community.
Office Manager: Rosemary Wall
Rosemary is the friendly voice who answers our phones, manages the office and is the first port of call for College House visitors. Rosemary started working with us in 2013. Previously she ran her own company in partnership with her husband, and was, for 16 years, office manager of a Christchurch business.
Facilities Manager: David-Jon Wheeler BLA (Hons)
DJ is Landscape Architecture graduate from Lincoln University. He also completed an apprenticeship in Horticulture at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens and has been a member of staff at College House since 2004. As Facilities Manager, DJ ensures our grounds and buildings function to a high standard and create a safe, efficient and comfortable environment for students and staff. When he’s not at College House, DJ will be found on the sports field supporting his children, developing his large home garden in Prebbleton or riding his MTB on the Port Hills.
