Congratulations to recent alumni

Naomi Matthews (2003), who is a UC Geology Honours student, has been awarded a Woolf Fisher Scholarship worth more than $100,000 and will begin a PhD in Volcanology at Oxford University in October 2007. Naomi will study under Prof. David Pyle in the area of volcanology at the Department of Earth Sciences and will investigate the magmatic processes and volcanological history of supervolcanic systems in the Taupo Volcanic Zone.

Marcus Jesen (2003) was team leader for the team CAPENZ67 which was placed second and won the poster competition in the Chem-E-Car Down Under Grand Final in Auckland in September. Jesen and his team are UC Chemical and Process engineering students and their challenge was to construct a car powered by chemical reaction.

Katie Sherning (2004), was a member of this years winning team in the IPENZ (Institute of Professional Engineers NZ) Canterbury Innovation Competition. The team’s winning poster detailed their conceptual design for an Arrowtown eco-hotel and boutique cheese factory complex.
