Future Plans for College House

"This I know is all in the future, and perhaps in the far future.  But few things are well done unless they are thought out before the time for doing them arrives.  The vision may tarry, but it will come.”  Prinicpal Wilford 1922

The College House Board of Governors is committed to an on-going development programme for the College and we invite you to view our vision for the future.

Creation of a New House

The College is excited at the possiblity of enabling seven new students to be part of College House each year by extending the current number of rooms in Main Block from 8 to 15. This would transform 'Main Block' into a 'New House' and increase the total number of Housemen and women from 152 to 159.

Proposed Main Block

Pictured above is the architect's impression of an extension to 'Main Block' with addtional rooms on the second and third floors.

College House Archives Room

Proposed Archives Room above Rec Block

The history of College House dates back over 160 years and many important books and documents have been gifted by alumni, some of the material is from the early Canterbury Settlement. The College would like to build an Archives Room so archival material can be stored in a temperature controlled environment.

Pictured above is the architect's impression of the College House Archives Room, built above the Recreation Block. Access to the Archives Room would be available from the Library via a small museum area.

 The College House Chapel
College House Chapel

This beautiful building is at the centre of the College community as well as holding an important place in NZ architectural history. Regular services are held in the chapel and it is used for music practice and performances and reflection. The College Chapel requires earthquake strengthening and the College would also like to restore the chapel organ. Heritage grants may be able to assist with the restoration costs.
