College House Alumni

Annual Giving Campaign

What is Annual Giving?

Annual Giving gives every alumnus and friend of College House an opportunity to contribute to support current and future students by making a gift to the College.

2011 Annual Giving

This year the College and its students and staff, along with the University and the city of Christchurch, has experienced one of the most challenging years in its history.

Our alumni are familiar with the College’s rich traditions, and our current students appreciate their well appointed facilities, academic tutoring and mentoring and the pastoral support they receive.

College House remains determined to continue to offer these benefits to the next generation of students. And the College will maximise the opportunities that the earthquakes have provided in terms of future proofing the College buildings.

This year we offer alumni the opportunity to support the college by making a donation towards the College House Building Development Fund or by way of gifting to the College’s Scholarship Fund. Your assistance will ensure the College continues to provide the best possible opportunities and facilities for its students both now and in the future.

I thank all alumni who have given in the past and I encourage all those who are considering giving for the first time to become involved in our Annual Giving Programme. Every donation counts and a gift, no matter what size, is deeply appreciated.
Individuals may be entitled to a rebate from the Inland Revenue Department on donations made.

Thank you for supporting the College as it looks towards the future and the continuing challenge of supporting students at such an influential and critical stage of their lives.

Thank you!

Annual Giving 2010 helped fund the restoration of the College House Bell which is now fomally mounted on a  beautiful plynth built by Bob Davies.

The College House Bell, weighs about 1/3rd of a ton, is made of solid brass and was cast in 1878 by John Warner and Sons – makers of the original ‘Big Ben’ bell which is housed in the Clock Tower at the northeastern end of the Houses of Parliament, in London.
The College House Bell used to hang beneath the Chapel but was a natural target for intruders from other Halls, determined to sneak in, ring, wake up our students and try to escape before being apprehended. The inconvenience was such that eventually the Principal of the time decided the bell should be taken down!
It is nice to think that a ‘suitable resting place’ has now been created for our bell where it can be on display in perpetuity.

Thank you to our alumni for funding this special project.
